Here are the new norms for UPI and LPG from 1st June 2026:
UPI
Two-factor and Biometric prompts for transactions
Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe won't depend on four or six-digit PINs for high-value transactions to protect against financial scams. These apps will now need Fingerprint or third-party device-based verification or two-factor authentication.
ATM withdrawal quotas
UPI-based cardless transactions now will be considered part of monthly free withdrawals that would invite charges like card transactions.
Why Is 1st June Considered for the Changes?
The limitation, new rules governing cooking gas, and UPI restrictions will be implemented from 1 st June 2026. 31st May is the hard date for technical UPI app frameworks to switch to enhanced security measures. The date would apply an increase in surge fees in transactions like summer holiday travel transactions and school fees.
Mandatory Guidelines of LPG
The authorities are planning for quicker transactions from LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) to PNG (Piped Natural Gas).
One House One Connection: Strict norms are rolled out to ensure that each household doesn't have multiple gas connections.
PNG Transition Deadline: You have 30 days to terminate your LPG connection if you recently have acquired one.
Limitations on New Bookings: Active PNG connection holders cannot buy a new LPG connection.
Refill Lock-in Extension: OMCs have made the new guidelines to fill the gap needed to order gas cylinders. This is now 45 days for rural areas and 25 days for urban.
Name Verification Before Transaction
UPI applications should compulsorily pull the actual verified recipient name of the money through a secure database. These apps will reflect the full official name of the recipient before you make a transaction.
