Jharkhand has seen a decline in liquor sales over the last five years. The reason behind this is that drinkers have shifted to illicit liquor made from mahua, which has increased the risk of alcohol poisoning. London Proof: Litres of 75.30 lakh of liquor were sold in Jharkhand in 2020-2021. This has declined to 25.78 lakhs this year. This shows that there is a 75 percent decrease in liquor sales, and Jharkhand used to account for 9 percent of the country's total liquor revenue, which has declined to 1.5 percent. The major reason for the fall in liquor sales in the country is due to the packaging problem. Packaging in glass bottles led to higher prices until 2022, when the liquor was sold in plastic bottles.
