Silent job cuts and layoffs are becoming the new norm in India's software industry, with 35,000 job cuts expected in 2026. There is a major shift seen in the IT industry that is worth over $315 billion. Already, more than 15,000 job cuts are seen till May 2026, and it is expected that at least 35,000 job cuts will occur in 2026.
CIEL HR Services expects that, till now, 12,000 job cuts have been eliminated and 21,000 total job cuts in 2026. The expected figure may reach 43,000. For example, Accenture and TCS have announced more than 23,000 layoffs across the globe without any formal layoff announcement.
The major reasons are productivity gains, skill gaps, and structural organization. Companies are emphasizing eliminating redundant positions, which is around 7389 employee reduction across the major tech industry, including WIPRO, Tech Mahindra, TCS, and Infosys.
The Infosys company has added 5,000 employees, while TCS has decreased its workforce by 23,460. Most companies are adapting to automation and streamlining their operations. CEIL HR Managing Director, Aditya Mishra, said that major layoffs are seen due to the company restructuring.
Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital, said that hiring demand is seen more in AI, cybersecurity, platform engineering, and cloud computing. Companies are now focusing on cognitive leverage instead of labour scale, says Former MD at Accenture, Satish Viswanathan.
