Malt spirit permit is granted to domestic liquor companies by the Excise department, which has led to a dispute between the department and liquor producers of the Jharkhand state. ENA, also known as extra neutral alcohol, is used for the country liquor production along with flavours and Caramel. Foreign liquor companies buy malt spirit and use it for the production of liquor. ENA permits are issued by the country liquor department or manufacturing companies. Liquor companies have requested malt spirit permits from the Excise department but were rejected. This led to dissatisfaction among liquor manufacturers, which has impacted the business of other liquor companies.
People who are linked with liquor companies say that foreign liquor costs 500 per liter, while the ENA used in making domestic liquor costs around Rs 80 to 85 per liter, and the malt spirit, when added in a lesser quantity, enhances the flavour.Companies using malt spirit don't mention the ingredient list, and companies are capturing the market, but the companies using ENA are getting impacted on their sales.
