The EU re-included India in its export of aquaculture products list. This has brought significant relief to the seafood industry. Earlier, concerns were raised to exclude India from the authorised list of exporters for aquaculture products. The EU needs exporting countries to ensure that aquaculture products are free from the use of antimicrobials for growth yield. The EU has updated the list and included India, as it follows EU guidelines on antimicrobial use prohibition. The EU is the third-largest seafood export market, accounting for 18.94 percent of total seafood exports. This step will boost the seafood sector of India and will see a growth from 38 percent to 41 percent, with shrimp contributing to the major share of exports in the EU.
